Taiwanese violinist Jean Huang Baverstam is a consummate artist whose career is equally devoted to three interwoven roles: performer, educator, and music scholar.

Her active performing career has brought her to concert halls worldwide, engaging audiences across the United States and internationally. WBUR-FM noted that they were “left speechless after having the chance to watch and listen to Jean Huang close up.” The Boston Musical Intelligencer said of her Mozart concerto: “Our eyes and ears concentrated on the elegant and outgoing Huang. With both serious attitude and a million-dollar smile, she gave a riveting account of the 28-minute ‘Turkish’ concerto.”

Jean enjoys presenting standard repertoire alongside contemporary works. Her performances range from premieres at Jordan Hall’s Tuesday New Music series to full-length recital programs featuring Brahms and Schubert sonatas, presented with her duo partner Victor Rosenbaum at the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts concert series. She has made multiple concerto appearances with the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra, Brookline Symphony, WPI Philharmonic, and Music for Peace Orchestra, performing Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending and Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, among others.

Jean is a founding member of Trio Flamecrest, a new string trio formed by Carol Ou (cello) and Amy Galluzzo (violin and viola). The ensemble tours regularly across the United States and recently presented sold-out performances at Chamber Music Raleigh and in Woodstock, Vermont.

Equally comfortable in both chamber music and orchestral settings, Ms. Baverstam serves as Concertmaster of the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra and the Brookline Symphony. Her leadership and artistry have been recognized by prominent music critics such as the Cape Cod Times and the Boston Musical Intelligencer.

Deeply committed to cultivating a shared musical language that connects professional musicians and highly accomplished non-professional performers, Jean’s artistic journey has led to enriching experiences, including residencies at the Chamber Music Conference at Colgate University.

Baverstam is an adjunct professor at Roger Williams University and serves on the faculty at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and School of Expanded Education. Jean holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance from the New England Conservatory. Her dissertation produced a critical edition of the Poulenc Violin Sonata, which has been widely referenced by prominent performers.
